Colony expands to new devices
Colony now streaming on new apps for Android, Chromecast, iOS Airplay and Roku.
We have been hard at work to make our content available across a wider range of devices. You can now stream your Colony library on any Android mobile or tablet, cast with Airplay or Chromecast, or stream on Roku devices. Read on to discover how…
Stream your films on any Android mobile or tablet device, on any version from 4.4 onwards.
Once you have purchased a bundle, clicking on “watch film” whilst on an Android device will redirect you to the Play Store, where you can download the app. Once downloaded, the app will open everytime you try to play a film, and you will be able to seamlessly switch between watching the film and viewing the extra content. Alternatively you can download the app directly from the Google Play Store.
Chromecast / Android TV
If you own a Chromecast or Android TV, you are now able to cast all the videos on the Colony platform from your computer to your TV.
Make sure your Chromecast and computer are both connected to the same wifi network, then simply hover your mouse over the video whilst it is playing, and look out for the Chromecast icon on the top right of the video player.
Click the icon, and select your device from the options that appear. The video will stop playing on your computer and begin playing on your big screen. Further information can be found on the Chromecast website.
Please note that casting from a mobile device is only possible for extra-content, due to current technical and licensing restrictions. If you cast from a laptop or desktop however, you will be able to cast any video on the platform straight to your TV!
If you have an iPad, we’ve added the ability to stream our films to your Apple TV device via Airplay. First, download our free Colony Player app to your device, login with your Colony account, and begin playing your film as normal. Make sure that your iPad and your AirPlay device are on the same Wifi network. Next, on your iPad, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open Control Center, and tap Airplay. Then tap the name of the device you want to stream the film to. Find out more at the Apple support site.
We are hard at work on a new version of the iOS app that will allow you to play your films on your iPhone as well, which we hope to release in mid-October. Watch this space!
