Build Your Audience Projects Revealed
Film London's innovative distribution training programme, supported by Colony, has announced 11 teams to receive bespoke mentoring
Film London today announced the 11 filmmaking teams participating in the third edition of Build Your Audience, its bespoke mentorship programme which addresses the rapidly changing face of feature film distribution. The bespoke programme combines classroom-based learning with individual mentoring, with previous participants nominated for BAFTA and Independent Spirit Awards, including Appropriate Behaviour. The Build Your Audience programme funded and supported by Creative Skillset, and Colony.
Unique and proactive in its approach, Build Your Audience offers practical solutions for filmmakers looking to identify, develop and maximise audiences for their films in today’s crowded marketplace. This year’s selected projects include Uncle Howard, executive produced by Jim Jarmusch and the latest feature from Resistance director Amit Gupta.
Filmmakers need to understand the increasing complexity of distribution opportunities
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London and British Film Commission said: “We have seen significant shifts in the distribution world in recent years, and negotiating this constantly changing landscape is no mean feat. Build Your Audience allows filmmakers to drill down into the fundamentals of traditional sales and distribution methods, while also interrogating new and pioneering models to find the right fit for their project. With previous graduates including Appropriate Behaviour and BAFTA nominee Kajaki: The True Story I’m looking forward to seeing what is in store for this year’s crop of projects, and I’m sure our partners at Creative Skillset and Colony are similarly excited.”
Rebecca Davies, Film Partnership Manager at Creative Skillset, said: "Filmmakers need to understand the increasing complexity of distribution opportunities and alternative platforms, which change so quickly! The latest data and market trends, together with expert support, will help our talent teams target their audiences as effectively as possible.”
